2016 Blue Pyrenees Estate Richardson Cabernet Sauvignon
“The Richardson Series of wines are produced only in great vintages from the most characterful batches of grapes identified by the Blue Pyrenees winemakers as having the potential to make an iconic red wine (as a tribute to the late Colin Richardson, himself a larger than life character). These wines are vinified & matured separately before confirmation of suitability to be called ‘Richardson’, then prepared for bottling. The 2015/2016 growing season proved to be ideal for red grapes, with good winter rains & then plenty of warmth to easily ripen to optimum maturity. Vinification included cold soaking pre-ferment, a 5 day warm ferment in open fermenters & completion of primary & secondary fermentation in oak. Maturation for 22 months in both new & 2 year old French oak barriques ensured complexity, smoothness & integration of all flavour components before bottling in March 2018.”
